1.8.10 Chevy Volt Battery Plant Now Online
According to a variety of online reports, battery production has begun for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt!
Production is taking place at a small dedicated plant just outside of Detroit. The 16 Kilowatt hour batteries will cost between $8,000 and $16,000 USD and if GM is able to get the cost closer to the $8k number it would dramatically decrease the price of the Volt.
The plant itself will be known as the "Brownstown Battery Pack Assembly Plant" and is located in Brownstown Township outside Detroit. According to Wired.com, General Motors spent $43 million and five months retooling the plant. The plant is located between two feeder airports where the battery cells will arrive from Asia. From there the batteries will be built and shipped up off to assembly plants within Detroit.
